Stephanie Hand-Cannane obtained her B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish from Kent State University in 2010. She obtained her law degree from The University of Akron School of Law in 2013. She was admitted to the Ohio Bar and has been practicing law since 2013.
Attorney Hand-Cannane specializes in several areas of law. She focuses on corporate and small business law, concentrating in all aspects of business law from the initial business startup, acting as ongoing counsel for daily operations and purchase and sales agreements, as well as planning for ownership succession. Attorney Hand-Cannane’s practice includes a significant amount of real estate matters, ranging from drafting purchase agreements and deeds to handling complex easement and ownership disputes. She also practices in the areas of domestic relations law, estate planning, personal injury, and civil litigation in all courts.
As a certified General and Family Mediator, Ms. Hand-Cannane is highly skilled at alternative dispute resolution, including negotiation and mediation. From assisting parties involved in a civil dispute to working with couples going through a divorce, Attorney Hand-Cannane’s role as a mediator is to help the parties find common ground and facilitate settlement discussions.
Prior to joining the firm in 2015, Ms. Hand-Cannane worked in the oil and gas industry where she represented energy companies in complex litigation. Attorney Hand-Cannane also focused on resolving title defects and calculated mineral right ownership through the use of the Ohio Dormant Mineral Act.
Ms. Hand-Cannane is a member of the Portage County Bar Association, where she serves on the Domestic Relations and Legislative Liaison Committees. As a member of the Akron Bar Association, she is a member of the New Lawyers and Women in Law Sections. Attorney Hand-Cannane is also an active member of the Home Builders Association serving Portage and Summit Counties and The Junior League of Stark County, where she proudly serves on the Executive Board.
As an alumnus of The University of Akron School of Law, Ms. Hand-Cannane was president of the Law School’s award-winning Mock Trial Team where she competed in national trial competitions, including the American Association for Justice National Student Trial Advocacy Competition and the National Civil Trial Competition. Since graduating, Ms. Hand-Cannane coaches and prepares teams to compete across the country.
